I agree so much! Lately I've been looking introspectively and although I am not white and I personally feel that I've done my best to be aware. I realized that even the fact that I have to make an "effort" says that something was not correct in our system. I was lucky to grow up in a very multicultural environment with teachers from all color and background. However just like you said, I had never been introduced to a black author and very few female authors.

While doing self examination I became hyper aware of things like:

1. Why do we tell our daughters to dress "properly" and be careful at night but never tell our sons the same.

2. When you see a white man with a hoodie and hoods up do you feel the same as when you see a person of colour?

Looking inwards can be uncomfortable but change always starts inwards.

Thanks for this beautiful piece!
